Kristie and I are trying something new to motivate us into running more often. We're paying ourselves for running.
Since coming back from the Sydney Half Marathon, we have been pretty lax about our running routine. We would often put off a run if the weather was anything other than perfect. As a result, we weren't running nearly as much as we should have been.
Last night, we had dinner with a friend who told us that she hired a trainer to help her get back into running. She said that there is nothing as motivating as paying good money to get you back into the habit of running. So we decided to take that idea, and apply it to ourselves. Only instead of paying someone else, we're paying ourselves.
So here is how it will work: We will make a plan to run at least three days a week (for now), on each day we run, we will pay ourselves $5.00 for the run. For each week where we fall short of our three day goal, we will subtract $5.00 for each day missed. We can go over the allotted number of runs per week, and each run will give us an additional $5.00.
We can spend our money whenever we want, on whatever we want. I hope this will help motivate us to get back into the groove.
