A Month of Challenges by Leo Saumure |
August was a was quite a bit of a slack month for us in terms of maintaining a healthy lifestyle as we really loosened the reins when we went to Victoria. We didn't go nuts, and we did incorporate a few runs while on vacation, but we didn't hold back if we saw dishes we wanted either.
As retribution for our month of indulgence, we're doing the following 30 day challenges:
- No Eating Out Challenge
- Eat More Leafy Greens Challenge
- Sit-up Challenge
- Push-up Challenge
No Eating Out Challenge
For this challenge, as the name would suggest, we want to impose a 30 day ban on eating out, with one exception. We tend to do longer runs on Saturday or Sunday, and after a run, we will still go to a cafe to buy a coffee and some sort of baked good.
Eat More Leafy Greens
As we are vegetarians (technically pescitarians), you wouldn't think that getting enough leafy green vegetables would be an issue, but like anyone, it is quite easy to fall into particular eating habbits (e.g. root vegetables, rices/grains, pastas, etc.). So for the Eat More Leafy Green challenge, we want to incorporate one type of leafy green into one meal, every four days. We've done this challenge before, and what usually ends up happening, is that we have them for almost every day during the challenge. The last time, we did quite a few side salads with Kale as the main ingredient, but we made a quite a few dishes that incorporated them as well.
Sit-up Challenge
A few months ago, we did a 30 day AB challenge that I whinged about almost constantly on Facebook. Well we're not doing that again! Instead, we're going to try to ensure we do a set of exercises for three days on, and one day off. Those exercises will include:
- 70 Sit-ups
- 70 Crunches
- 70 Leg Lifts
- 70 Second Plank
This shouldn't be very hard to incorporate as we were all ready doing this for July. But August was a slack month in many respects, it is more about getting back into the habit.
Push-up Challenge
Like the AB challenge, the push-up challenge will involve 3 days on and one day off of incorporating push-ups into our daily routine. This one doesn't have any specific number associated with it, as we're just trying to incorporate a few more exercises. For myself, I want to ensure that I do at the very least 20 push-ups per night, but I also want to increase my strength and stamina, so I will also try to increase them gradually as the month goes on.
After this month of multiple challenges, we want to do at least one 30 day challenge a month. We've found that it is usually a good kick-start into getting into goo habits. If you have any ideas for a 30 day challenge, let us know.
